Stay for a week-end or longer. A true wilderness escape - just two hours from Brisbane.
Our vision is to develop a true wilderness camping experience which allows you a place to connect with the bush. We have 300ac (130ha) of mountains and forest available for camping. As well we offer an established camping ground with all the basic facilities you would expect in a wilderness retreat. But please note Mt Barney Retreat is accessible by 4WD vehicle only – the road is rough but not beyond the capabilities of any careful driver. A commitment to restrict the number of sites to a sustainable number means you, your family and friends can readily experience the quiet and peaceful surrounds of the forest and the mountains.
We hope that limiting the number of camping sites we are able to offer you a great incentive to camp here. For those who want to stay close to our main facilities we offer about 5 acres in which to put up your tent or place your camper van. The main camping ground area is about 2.5ha/5ac in area and cleared of all major timber though clustered around the perimeter are numerous Eucalyptus trees providing some shady spots during the afternoon sun. As the sun moves into the west, lengthening shadows provide ample shade to both cabins. The breeze when it blows is always usually cool because at 725m there is a significant cooling effect caused by the altitude. This is the main camping area and the grounds are close to the kitchen, community hall, toilets and showers.
For those who want a complete wilderness escape we also offer an even more remote location - hidden in the forest and ridges of the property and accessible by more experienced four wheel drivers - as the tracks are rougher and steeper.
