Gondwana Rainforest Walk

Gondwana Rainforest Walk

This is a guided half-day walk through the pristine Gondwana forest on the southern edge of the Retreat.

The forest grows on the western rim of the ancient remains of the Focal Peak volcano. The Gondwana Rainforest, a World Heritage listed site is one of the most ancient types of vegetation in Australia and is home to over 200 rare and threatened plant and animal species.  The rainforest forms part of the southern boundary to the Retreat and so we are privileged to be able - as part of your stay to offer you this exclusive walk through this secluded mountain region.

Walk Duration: 6 hours
This walk requires a high fitness level and minimum numbers are required.

We offer a fully accredited guide for this trek. For inexperienced walkers of medium fitness level this is our mandatory requirement. Your Gondwana guide is Jarrah Keenan who has many years’ experience exploring the forests of the east coast of Australia.

The walk starts out from the Retreat at 11am and will arrive back at the Retreat at about 5pm. The walk will take you over Harvey Hill then up the ridge to Mowburra Peak then along the ridge to Durramlee and then back to the Retreat via Mowburra Peak again.
